Ahead of the trailer’s release this Wednesday, Kevin Smith shared alternate posters Lionsgate has crafted for the upcoming movie Clerk III. Although no cast members are shown in either poster, the familiar font and taglines easily sum up what fans want from this franchise. These teases are sure to increase fans’ excitement, while building hype for the trailer, which will be released on July 6th.
Smith will unveil a new teaser poster each weekday until the official poster is released along with the trailer. Thursday’s poster showed a padlock (backed with gum) with the Clerks police, teasing that Dante (Brian O’Halloran), Randall (Jeff Anderson), Jay (Jason Mews) and Bob (Smith) have become “too old for this change”. The second poster shows the actual storefront of the Quick Stop Groceries store, with a loosely hung sheet stating “I assure you, we are open”. Smith was sure to give credit to Lionsgate’s marketing team, and they certainly did a good job of speeding up the release of official documents.
Although there have been plans since Clerk II to make a third film, nothing concrete materialized initially. Smith officially confirmed the film in October 2019, stating the following on his social media:
“It’s going to be a movie that concludes a saga. It’s going to be a movie about how you’re never too old to completely change your life. It’s going to be a movie about how a decades-long friendship finally comes to a head. future. It will be a movie that finally takes us back to the beginning – a return to the cradle of civilization in the great state of New Jersey. It will be a movie that will star Jeff [Anderson] and Brian O’Halloran, with me and Jay [Mewes] in supporting roles. And it will be a movie called “Clerks III”.
Filming officially began last August, a decision surely made with the COVID-19 pandemic in mind. Smith will be at Comic-Con later this month to promote the film. A set time and date has yet to be revealed for his panel, although the director has typically led a panel on Saturday nights in Hall H. With the trailer release coming this week, he will have no no doubt more tricks up his sleeves for the dedicated fans who will be in attendance.
In addition to the names mentioned above, Clerk III will also see the return of Rosario Dawson as Becky, a character who first appeared in Clerk II. This third film, which will be Smith’s first film since 2019 Jay and Silent Bob rebootwill see Randal (Anderson) decide to make a movie about the Quick Stop store after suffering a heart attack.
Clerk III hits theaters in September. Check out the new posters below and stay tuned to Collider for the official poster and trailer later this week.
